Paradise Drive Complete Street Project - Westward Drive to Town Limit
Project Description: This project is part of the Town’s Capital Improvement Program which strives to rehabilitate and improve the safety of Town roadways. The project originated from requests from the Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee, the Safe Routes to School Task Force, and from the public. The Town was awarded a Measure A Safe Pathways to School Grant from the Transportation Authority of Marin in 2010 for design of the project.
The Town of Corte Madera initiated design services in late 2021 for multi-modal improvements in the form of new bicycle and pedestrian facilities along the approximately 1,700 foot long section of Paradise Drive from Westward Drive to the Town limit east of Robin Drive. In general, these improvements are expected to include a new multi-use path on the south side of the roadway, paved street parking, an enhanced crosswalk between Marin Montessori and Marin Country Day School, and various other improvements. Additionally, the project will raise Paradise Drive to help protect against flooding and sea level rise.
The Town was recently awarded a $2,056,000 OBAG3 grant for construction of the project.
Public Works has held several public workshops and presented the project at both the Flood Board and Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee over the past year to receive feedback and prioritize goals for the project. Recordings of those meetings can be found below.
Public Works will be presenting the project to Town Council at the March 7, 2023 meeting at 6:30pm and seeking direction on which conceptual design to move forward. The last issue that is yet to be determined is whether the Town should provide a “flex space” which would be used for school queuing for Marin Montessori and Marin Country Day School during school drop and pick up on week days and public parking all other times.
Status: Design
Project Type(s): Roadway, Multimodal, Storm System, Pedestrian, Climate Adaptation, Traffic
Schedule: The project is in the initial stages of design. The Town will hold several public workshops to determine the project priorities before beginning design work. The first workshop and community engagement was held on November 3, 2021 at 5:30pm via zoom and an additional initial workshop was held on November 30, 2021 at 5:30pm via zoom. The third public workshop, a presentation to the Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC), was held on January 20, 2022. The fourth public workshop was held on May 25, 2022 at 5:30pm via zoom. The next presentation to BPAC is scheduled for Monday, November 14, 2022 at 6:30pm.
